What is South Valley Prep’s After-School Program?

The South Valley Prep 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) After-School Program is a free, federally funded out-of-school-time program that gives students a safe, structured, and enriching place to learn and grow beyond the school day.

Funded through the New Mexico Public Education Department, the program offers hands-on academic support, creative enrichment, and leadership opportunities for students in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

Through project-based learning, tutoring, and family activities, our goal is to help students develop academically, socially, and emotionally — while building lasting connections with their school and community.

Who Is It For?

The SVP After-School Program is open to all South Valley Prep students and their families. The 21st CCLC initiative follows a dual-capacity framework, which means it’s designed to serve both students and parents through academic learning, personal growth, and family engagement opportunities.

Enrollment is first come, first served, with priority given to students who benefit most from extra academic and social support.

How Does It Work?

The program runs Monday through Friday, directly after the school day:

  • Afternoon Hours: 3:40 PM – 6:00 PM (Mon–Fri)
  • Early Release Fridays: 1:10 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Morning Program (Optional): 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Summer Program: Late May – June, Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Each session includes academic tutoring, homework help, and a rotation of enrichment activities such as arts, sports, cooking, and STEM projects. A free nutritious meal is provided daily.

Students are expected to attend regularly to gain the most benefit from the program. Attendance helps build consistency, teamwork, and stronger academic outcomes.

Why Does It Matter?

The After-School Program isn’t just about extra time — it’s about creating opportunity and connection.

By offering 240 additional hours of structured learning each year (the equivalent of 34 extra school days), South Valley Prep helps students:

  • Strengthen academic skills in reading, math, science, and social studies
  • Build critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Develop leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Stay engaged in a safe, supportive environment after school

For families, it means peace of mind — knowing their child is in a positive, supervised setting that supports their success and well-being.

For the community, it builds a stronger bridge between school and home, fostering lifelong learning and pride in the South Valley.
