SVP School Programs for Middle Schoolers
At South Valley Prep, we believe learning should inspire curiosity, confidence, and connection. Our school programs are designed to support the whole child — academically, socially, and emotionally — through engaging instruction, hands-on experiences, and strong family partnerships.
Serving grades 6–8 in Albuquerque’s South Valley, our tuition-free public charter school offers small class sizes, caring teachers, and a rich variety of academic and enrichment programs.
From core subjects that build a strong academic foundation to creative electives, leadership opportunities, and our award-winning 21st Century After-School Program, every part of SVP is built to help students discover their strengths and thrive.
21st Century After-School Program
The South Valley Prep 21st Century After-School Program is a free, federally funded initiative that gives students a safe and supportive space to learn, explore, and grow after the school day ends. Designed for grades 6–8, the program combines academic tutoring, creative enrichment, and leadership development through clubs like cooking, sports, STEM, and mariachi. With strong family involvement and caring mentors, SVP’s after-school program helps students build confidence, discover new passions, and stay connected to their community in Albuquerque’s South Valley.
Looping Model
At South Valley Prep, we use a looping model that allows teachers to stay with the same group of students for multiple years. This approach builds strong relationships, consistency, and trust — helping students feel supported both academically and emotionally. By truly getting to know each learner’s strengths, needs, and goals, our teachers create personalized learning experiences that foster confidence, growth, and lasting success throughout middle school.
Service Learning and Outdoor Experiences
At South Valley Prep, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through our Service Learning and Outdoor Experiences, students engage with their community and environment while developing leadership, empathy, and real-world problem-solving skills. From community service projects to outdoor education and field experiences across Albuquerque’s South Valley, students learn the value of teamwork, responsibility, and giving back. These hands-on opportunities connect academic learning to life, helping every SVP student grow as both a scholar and a citizen.
Sport and Athletics
Our Sports & Athletics Program encourages every student to stay active, set goals, and develop lifelong healthy habits. From volleyball and basketball to cheer and seasonal intramurals, SVP athletes learn the value of discipline, sportsmanship, and collaboration — all within a safe and supportive environment. We believe participation in sports strengthens not only the body, but also the mind and community spirit that define Albuquerque’s South Valley.
